Bio

Jenna Kurten is a Ph.D. student studying human behavioral ecology in the Cultural Anthropology program at Texas A&M University.  Jenna received her M.A. in Anthropology in 2014.  Her primary research emphases are on family formation and fertility outcomes cross-culturally.  Her work utilizes ethnographic field research conducted with the Mayangna/Miskito of eastern Nicaragua, and research conducted in the United States to understand fertility decline and reproductive motivation.  Her work explores behavioral variance between natural fertility populations and industrialized contexts, seeking to understand what catalyzes fertility reductions as experienced during demographic transitions.
