Bio

Rachel Matheny is a pursuing a doctorate degree in the Nautical Archaeology Program at Texas A&M University. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology/Archaeology from Baylor University and completed her Master’s degree in Classical Archaeology from Oxford Univeristy. Her Master’s thesis focused on the transportation of metal cargoes during the Roman period. Previously, she has worked at terrestrial sites in Central Texas and Italy. Her interests include ancient Mediterranean trade and human agency in ancient seafaring.
