 Associate Professor of Practice or Professor of Practice in Journalism

The Department of Communication and Journalism in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas A&M University invites applications for two full-time, Academic Professional Track (Non-Tenure) Professor of the Practice positions, each with a 9-month academic appointment. The positions will start as early as January 1, 2024 but no later than August 1, 2024. Professors of the Practice are faculty who have had primary employment in industries outside of academia, who can provide professional training to complement academic foundation courses. We are particularly interested in candidates who can provide such training in one or more areas related to: multimedia journalism reporter, including multimedia writing and editing for digital and emerging media; investigative reporting; bilingual journalism; sports multimedia reporting; broadcast journalism; public affairs and government reporting; graphics and visual journalism; data journalism; rural and community journalism; entrepreneurial and/or business journalism; health, environment and/or science reporting; and editing for digital and emerging media.

The Department of Communication and Journalism offers and administers PhD, MA, BA, and BS degrees. It has over 40 faculty members, more than 35 communication graduate students, and over 1,700 undergraduate students. We currently administer a university studies journalism degree to just over 80 students, with another 80 students minoring in journalism. We wish to grow journalism to between 400 and 500 majors over the next five years, with additional growth of the minor under our mission of promoting competent, engaged, informed, and ethical citizen communicators. Responsibilities for this position include teaching three courses each semester and service to the department. Service may include involvement in the development of undergraduate level courses and curricula.

Qualifications

Rank of the appointment is open (Associate Professor of the Practice or Full Professor of the Practice), depending on qualifications.  A Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communication or related discipline and significant accomplishment in an applied setting is required.  Successful candidates will have distinguished records in the journalistic profession and show promise of having a distinguished record in journalism education.
