The Department of Communication at Texas A&M University invites applications for a full-time, Academic Professional Track (Non-Tenure) Associate Professor of the Practice, with a 9-month academic appointment, starting September 1, 2021.  Professors of the Practice are faculty who have had primary employment in industries outside of academia, who can provide professional training to complement academic foundation courses.  We are seeking an individual with professional expertise in one or more aspects of strategic communication.  This person may have specialization in a wide range of areas (e.g., public relations, crisis communication, media strategy, media analytics).

We welcome individuals with over five years of experiences in corporate, government, and/or non-profit organizations; accreditation by PRSA or IABC is desirable but not required.  As a department we promote the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion in our work and community.  We welcome candidates whose careers demonstrate a shared commitment to these values, and who can teach skills that promote social engagement and inclusive excellence. The Department of Communication offers PhD, MA, BA, and BS degrees, and it has 44 faculty members, more than 35 graduate students, and over 1,500 undergraduate students. Further information regarding the department is available at http://comm.tamu.edu.

Responsibilities for this position include teaching three courses each semester and service to the department.  Service may include involvement in the development of Master’s level courses and curricula. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.

A Master’s degree is required in communication or a related field. We are particularly interested in candidates who will contribute to the department through excellence in teaching and service.

Completed M.A. or Ph.D. in communication or related discipline is required. Successful candidates will possess a strong pedagogical background for teaching courses across the communication curriculum, including (but not limited to): public speaking, international communication, communication theory, strategic communication, speaking for technical professions, group communication, and technology and communication.
