Bio

My name is Aleecia Campos. I graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Arts in Corporate Communications and a minor in Sign Language Interpreting. My research interest is in Health Communication, as I plan to focus on patient-centered care for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities. I am motivated to improve access to health communication for Deaf and Hard of Hearing patients, as I am Hard of Hearing myself and my younger brother is Deaf. Communication for Deaf and Hard of Hearing patients is difficult due to the communication breakdowns faced by this community in the health care setting. In my personal experience, I have observed that medical staff are often unaware of appropriate communication channels with their Deaf and Hard of Hearing patients, and I plan to address this need. I am an advocate for myself and others, and I am passionate about inclusion.
