Macy is from Charlotte, North Carolina. They graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a B.A. in German Language and Culture Studies. After teaching abroad, Macy returned to UNCC for their masters in English with a focus on linguistics. As a PhD candidate, Macy’s research focuses on sex, sexuality, and consumption for queer individuals. Their larger interests are in sex and sexuality education online, sex research, and critical discourse. Currently, they primarily focus on discussions of sex education in sexually-oriented businesses, the focus of their dissertation.

Over the last few years, Macy has been an ESL, First-year writing, and public speaking instructor. Nevertheless, their heart has always been in writing center work due to the interpersonal relationships with students and the opportunity to support students in and outside the classroom. Currently, they work in the University Writing Center here on campus. In their role at the Texas A&M Writing Center, Macy runs the Write Line program, manages the Canvas Resources page, and supports other administrators. They are especially passionate about providing resources and professional development opportunities for graduate students.

Previously, they taught public speaking, group communication, and public speaking for technical fields in the Communication Department. Macy has also served as the Assistant Course Director for Public Speaking and the Graduate Student Director for the 2022 Communicating Diversity Conference hosted by the Climate and Inclusion Committee.
