hartnettName: Emily Hartnett

Hometown: Kingwood, TX

High School: Kingwood High School

Degree objective: B.S. in Economics, M.S. in Economics

Expected graduation: May 2020

University highlights, awards, scholarships: I am currently serving as the President of Women in Economics where I get the opportunity to present women in the department with different professional development opportunities as well as foster professional and personal relationships among the group. I am really proud of the fact that we have increased membership by over 90% from last year. I also was on the Dean’s List in Fall 2017

Clubs/Organizations I am (was) a part of: John15, Kappa Delta Sorority, Women in Economics

Current employment: I have worked as an accounting assistant at the on campus bookstore, I graded papers for ECON 440 one semester, was a host at BJ’s Restaurant and this past summer I interned for PwC.

Family ties to Texas A&M: My older brother attended and graduated in 2018.

I chose to attend Texas A&M because…  Being an Aggie is an incredible experience that is hard to briefly sum up. I chose to attend TAMU initially because of the positive things I had heard from my brother, and once I arrived on campus I immediately understood his sentiment. The academics, traditions, and the Aggie spirit are all things I am very thankful for from my time spent at Texas A&M and I will always treasure the memories I have made these past 4 years.

My favorite things to do on campus are…  Attend football games and listen to the piano players in the MSC flag room.

When I have free time, I like… Hanging out with my friends, reading, running, listening to podcasts and catching up on my favorite TV shows.

The craziest thing I’ve done is…  Not too crazy but a few years ago I travelled to Europe with my mom and (among other things) we took a tour of Paris’s catacombs. It was very eerie to be so close to bones that are hundreds of years old.

My favorite place to study is… Either Starbucks on the Quad or the Zachry engineering building.

My favorite ECON professor is…  Dr. Edwardson and Dr. Naufal.

My favorite part of being an Economics student is…  The variety of classes that are offered, the great support from the department and the broad opportunities presented after graduation as an Econ major.

If I could share an afternoon with anyone, I would love to share it with…  My grandmother who passed when I was very young. I know she would be proud of everything I have accomplished in my young life.

If I knew I could not fail, I would…  Have a hard time motivating myself to meet the goals that I have set. Also I’d audition for SNL.

If money was not a consideration, I would love to…  Travel the world with my family.

What is your passion and how are you committed to pursuing it?  My passion is not yet clear to me but my commitment to pursue it is continuing to keep an open mind and a willingness to try new activities and meet new people.

After graduation, I plan to…  I have accepted a job as an Advisory Associate for PwC in New York City.

The one Texas A&M experience I will always remember is…  In December 2017 when it snowed while I was studying for finals. It was a great study break and the perfect way to get even more excited about Christmas break!
