Glasscock Center Administrative Undergraduate Apprentice 

Undergraduate Admin Apprentices should have (or have the potential for developing) the basic office skills described below and a desire to learn more about the humanities and humanities research.

Some office experience is helpful but not essential. Skills required include: written and oral communication; knowledge of office procedures and programs; time management; ability to maintain a regular schedule, a professional demeanor, and a presentable office space, to follow instructions, to work without supervision, to take accurate messages, to finish projects efficiently, and provide status reports; willingness to initiate and anticipate tasks, to offer assistance to other staff, and to learn new skills. There will be a possible opportunity for summer employment of up to 20 hours per week.

In addition to joining an administrative team, undergraduate assistants will have the opportunity to take advantage of some of the Center’s regular humanities lunches, dinners with visiting scholars, workshops, seminars, and lectures.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with departmental inbox inquiries.
  • Assist with minor website content updates and email announcements.
  • Occasional assistance with social media updates (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.).
  • Assist walk-in visitors as needed.
  • Assist with the visits of scholars from outside the university.
  • Enter data, copy, and collate documents, and prepare mailings.
  • Monitor and replenish office supplies.
  • Keep office area, copy room, and kitchen organized and neat.
  • Assist with program duties as needed.
  • Assist with event set-up and take-down (including A/V technology, seating, tables, refreshments, etc.).
  • Tech host virtual events as applicable.
  • Occasional assistance with after-hours events, if available.
  • Miscellaneous tasks as required.
Qualifications
  • Must be an undergraduate student in good academic standing.
  • Proficiency in (or have the potential for developing) writing, social media, basic office skills, desire to learn about humanities and humanities research.
  • Some office experience is desired but not essential.
  • Knowledge of Zoom for setting up virtual meetings and events.
  • Knowledge of office procedures and equipment.
  • Ability to maintain a regular schedule (in coordination with class schedule).
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor.
  • Ability to maintain a presentable office space.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to work without supervision.
  • Ability to take accurate messages.
  • Ability to finish projects efficiently.
  • Ability to provide status reports.
