PURPOSE
To provide faculty with research support and graduate students with opportunities for collaboration
AMOUNT
Up to 60 hours of paid employment at $25 per hour to a graduate student in support of a faculty research project in the humanities (broadly conceived)
OPEN TO
All full-time faculty at Texas A&M
Applicants are normally notified of award decisions by six weeks following the application deadline.
Selection for these awards is typically made by a multi-disciplinary committee of Texas A&M faculty members in the humanities and humanistic social sciences who are often members of the Glasscock Center’s Faculty Advisory Board or previous awardees. Priority will be given to applications that best demonstrate the proposal’s ability to advance the faculty member’s research program and provide the graduate student a high-impact learning opportunity.
This program provides faculty researching in the humanities (broadly defined to include humanistic inquiry in any discipline) the opportunity to hire a Texas A&M graduate student as a short-term research collaborator for a specific project. In consequence, the program is intended both to aid the faculty member and to provide the graduate student an opportunity to work collaboratively and have a hands-on research experience with a faculty member. While hiring decisions are up to the faculty member, we strongly encourage utilizing graduate students who are not under the faculty member’s primary academic advisorship. Students do not need to be in the same department as the faculty awardee.
Grants will provide up to 60 hours of paid graduate student research at a rate of $25 per hour. Faculty awardees will select their own graduate collaborators and will be given guidance on the hiring process. These awards are intended to supplement a student’s primary teaching or research assistantship. Therefore, student collaborators cannot exceed 9 hours of work per week per university excess rules, and they must be currently funded and registered at the time of work. This program does not provide tuition and fees. If an AWL and/or IAWL are required for the work, the faculty member and/or student are responsible for securing it.
Potential projects might include, but are not limited to: indexing a book, assistance with a grant application, translation work, archival work, data analysis, public exhibition design, and literature review. The work must be research-related, and the graduate student should be acknowledged in any outcomes, such as in publications, in the manner most appropriate to the specific discipline.
Full-time faculty at Texas A&M may apply. Selection of the graduate student is at the discretion of the faculty member and is not required in advance of application.
