Over the past decade, the global information environment has transformed amid the rise of populist politics. This small conference explores the pressures facing journalists, intellectuals, and writers under populism, and the new networks and outlets they develop to reclaim their voices in polarized public spheres. Drawing on cases from Turkey, Venezuela, Hungary, Mexico, and the United States, and insights from sociology, anthropology, and media studies, it offers comparative perspectives on media transformation, populism, and contentious mobilization.
