Overview

In 2026, the Undergraduate Glasscock Scholars program will welcome its 15th cohort of Faculty Directors and Scholars. UGS provides high-impact undergraduate research experiences in the humanities through an intensive summer research seminar and fall semester research showcase. Participation in UGS sharpens students’ research and presentation skills, positioning them for competitive applications for graduate and professional school.

Scholars enroll in a two-week intensive seminar taught by their respective Faculty Directors and complete a series of writing workshops created especially for this program through the University Writing Center. At the beginning of the fall semester, Scholars will present their projects at a research showcase sponsored by the Glasscock Center.

The Undergraduate Glasscock Scholars (UGS) program is the result of a collaboration between the Melbern G. Glasscock Center for Humanities Research (GCHR), the University Writing Center (UWC), and LAUNCH Undergraduate Research. This UGS cohort is financially supported by the GCHR, the College of Arts & Sciences, the Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, and the Cantú Endowment.

Expectations

Faculty Directors

Be full-time faculty at Texas A&M University, including Tenure-Track, Tenured, or Academic Professional Track
Develop a seminar syllabus
Hold a 2-week seminar between May 12 and May 30, 2026 with 40 contact hours
Facilitate the completion of student projects and presentations for the UGS Fall Research Showcase
Complete reports to the Center on your activities and suggestions for program improvement

Undergraduate Scholars

Participate in the 2-week seminar
Participate in the writing studios
Write a thank-you note to Melbern and Susanne Glasscock for the scholarship
Participate in the UGS Fall Research Showcase
Complete reports to the Center on your activities and suggestions for program improvement

Funding and Benefits

Faculty Directors

Receive $5,000 in bursary or non-fringe salary
Experiment with new research topics, methods, and/or pedagogical approaches
Mentor undergraduate students in original humanities research projects
Give undergraduate students insight into and skills to complete graduate-level work

Undergraduate Scholars

Receive a $1,500 scholarship upon completion of the seminar and research showcase
Participate in a high-impact research experience
Establish a professional network of faculty and students
Become more competitive applicants for graduate or professional schools, fellowships, and grants
