Prospective Students

First time College Student

All applications and decisions for first time college students are reviewed by admissions.  The Hispanic Studies Department has no role in their decision making process.

However, we encourage you to reach out to the advisor with questions regarding the department. The advising office will have virtual appointments for prospective students. To make an appointment, email the advisor at  All virtual appointments will be on Friday from 9-11:30am.  We also recommend that you set up a campus tour during your visit to Aggieland through the visitor center.

Prospective Transfer Students

If you are considering transferring to our University program please visit transfer information for how-to-apply information and application deadlines.  The department does not review Transfer Student applications.  However, we can help you with transfer course work or other requirements.  Download your transfer sheets.

All Students are encouraged to always reach out to your academic advisor with questions regarding any of the processes.  We also encourage you to attend Aggieland Saturday, where you can meet with us and various other campus departments.

Spanish Major Change requirements:

Current students and students from Texas A&M Galveston must meet the following requirements:

  • Less than 90 hrs completed.
  • SPAN 201/208/221 and 202/203/218/222.
  • GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • A meeting with an advisor will be required prior to any change of major.
  • Having more than 60 hrs without any Spanish language (SPAN) completed may hinder the major change request. Please discussed with the advisor.

Major changes must be requested through Howdy by going to “My Record”, and then “Change of Curriculum Request.”  It will be reviewed once it is submitted.
