Research Interests

Trent MacNamara received his PhD in history from Columbia University in 2015 and began teaching at Texas A&M in 2016. He specializes in nineteenth and early twentieth century U.S. cultural, intellectual and social history. His first book, Birth Control and American Modernity: A History of Popular Ideas (Cambridge U.P., 2018), explores how family limitation became popular and legitimate among ordinary Americans in the 19th and early 20th centuries. MacNamara’s second book project looks at Americans’ changing ideas about the material and spiritual contents of the sky, starting around 1800 and ending in the space age.
