The Department of International Studies would like to recognize Kyra Easton, an INTS Politics and Diplomacy major and French minor, who was awarded an internship this spring through the Public Policy Internship Program at Texas A&M. As one of Texas A&M University’s premier leadership and development opportunities, the Public Policy Internship Program (PPIP) provides a unique opportunity for students to combine academics with policy knowledge and professional work experience (https://ppip.tamu.edu/).

Kyra Easton in Paris

Kyra interned this semester with the U.S. Commercial Service at the Embassy of the United States in Paris, France. As the daughter of a diplomat in the U.S. military, she was privileged to live in Europe for six years and was very excited to go back to Paris. Being a military brat, she was taught the values of honor, selflessness, and sacrifice, which instilled in her a passion for public service. She is interested in foreign affairs, public policy, international law, and hopes to someday combine all of these interests in her career. At A&M, she has had the opportunity to tutor veterans in writing and composition through the Warrior-Scholar Project, volunteer for Disability Resources, and currently works in the Department of International Studies.

Kyra described her internship in Paris as an invaluable experience which taught her about the functional aspects of international trade and gave her advantageous cultural insight. During her internship, Kyra was particularly instrumental in the preparation of the large U.S. Pavilion at the JEC Composites World show. She also helped with the promotional and matchmaking programs, the update of a market brief on composites in Europe, and the translations of commercial information to engage introduction with French end-users and distributors on behalf of U.S suppliers. Kyra also worked on other market research pieces, including subjects such as a French Defense Business Review and the French aerospace market.

She is very thankful to PPIP and the Association of Former Students who allowed her to pursue this amazing international experience.
