Bio

Dr. Ortega Aguilar completed his undergraduate education at Universidad Veracruzana. He holds a Ph. D in Spanish from Stanford University. His areas of concentration are Hispanic Studies, Latin American Literature and Culture with special interest in Mexican literature, nineteenth century Latin American literature, Post-Colonial Studies, Cultural Studies, science and the humanities, and Ecocriticism. Dr. Ortega Aguilar has taught at different universities in Mexico and the U.S., both at the graduate and undergraduate levels. He has a book on 20th century Mexican literature (Utopías inquietantes: narrativa proletaria en México en los años treinta) and has published articles in journals such as Texto Crítico, Nuevo Texto Crítico, Hispanic Poetry Review, La Palabra y el Hombre, Casa de las Américas, Revista Hispánica Moderna, among others. He is currently working on a reading of post-independence Latin American texts in a postcolonial context.
