What are you doing now?
“I am currently an Assistant Manager for Compliance at GLG, based in Austin. In this role, I help to ensure our clients’ research adheres to our industry leading compliance framework. By end of year, I will be transitioning to our office in Shanghai to help further grow our APAC Compliance Team. Prior to this, I managed GLG’s China Solutions team, overseeing a team spread across Austin, Shanghai, and Hong Kong. We were responsible for all clients based in North American who had research focused on Greater China.”
What advice would you give current and future students?
“Never shy away from learning about any opportunity you come across. Throughout my time at A&M, I was almost singularly focused on finding a way to work for the US State Department with a focus on China/APAC. However, I ended up in a business role upon graduating and have had so many experiences I never imagined. It has also helped to redefine what my future career outlook can be, all the while not having to give up my passion for all things China. I have been able to manage a team based half in China, and will be moving to China with my company by the end of 2021. I’ve made amazing connections on this unexpected journey, and have a newfound drive to push forward to law school after spending time in China to continue expanding the ways in which I can have an international career.”
