Bio
Mr. Richard Steffy was an internationally recognized authority on ancient ship construction. Steffy was one of the original faculty members in the Nautical Archaeology Program when it was founded at Texas A&M University in 1976. After retirement from teaching, Steffy continued to participate in ship construction research until his death in November 2007. Steffy’s monumental book, Wooden Ship Building and the Interpretation of Shipwrecks, remains an iconic work in the canon of Nautical Archaeology, and is used extensively by students and researchers around the world.
