Jesse O’Rear is a Visiting Assistant Professor and ACES Fellow in Performance Studies. He received his PhD from the Performance as Public Practice program at UT Austin in 2020. His dissertation research examined the use of autobiographical material in 21st century live performance work by transgender artists in the United States. His current research focuses on the use of applied theater techniques to support LGBT2QI+ students on college campuses.
In addition to his scholarly projects, he has worked as a performer and technician for a number of Austin-based theater organizations, including Ground Floor Theater, Vortex Repertory Theater, and Generic Ensemble Company. He currently serves as the Youth Engagement Coordinator on the Board of Directors for OUTsider Film and Arts Festival in Austin.
