Dr. Theodore George has been appointed as an Adjunct Professor to the Nursing Faculty at the University of Calgary, becoming the first philosopher as a member of the faculty. Building on a relationship with Dr. Nancy Moules, a professor and associate dean of research for the nursing faculty, that started in 2015 at the North American Society for Philosophical Hermeneutics, Dr. George has been strengthening ties to the University of Calgary Nursing Faculty.

Dr. George and Dr. Moules are currently working together on research about the nature of grieving in the age of social media and the public sharing of formerly private grief. Dr. George explains, “From a philosophical perspective, there is a poverty of understanding, but there is an excess of meaning in what we are studying. There is data saturation when it comes to most research, but when looking at something from a hermeneutics lens, you really can’t over-exhaust a topic.”

Adjunct faculty typically contribute through service on committees, guest lectures and presentations and Dr. George is honored that his relationship to the faculty at University of Calgary has been formalized in this manner.
