Africana Philosophy
Africana Philosophy is a “gathering notion” that refers to the ideas and expressions of Africans and people of African descent; it also includes the reflections and contributions of those who are not necessarily of African descent, but critically engage the characteristic questions that pertain to the history and socio-political condition of the African diaspora. Characteristic questions include, but are not limited to, 1) what is “freedom” in light of the history of American chattel slavery and its legacy? And 2) what does it mean to be “human” in light of the historical dehumanization of people of African descent?
