Clinical Psychology PhD program statement in support of diversity and inclusion in training and research activities

Our faculty have voiced their unanimous, strong condemnation of the racist and inflammatory tweets of Dr. Charles Negy, a graduate of our doctoral program and Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of Central Florida.  His opinions and racial stereotypes do not reflect the values of the doctoral clinical psychology program from which he earned his degree – neither as the program is constituted today, nor as it existed at the time of his training (1988-1994).  The sadness and anger felt in response to his tweets have further strengthened our collective resolve to promote diversity and inclusion in our training and research activities and to remove barriers to the advancement of individuals from historically excluded populations in our program and in our profession.   How we transform our resolve into action during this historic time is now part of a series of department wide discussions of effective response to our societal crisis.
