The Race & Ethnic Studies Institute (RESI) is hosting its first-ever reception and open house on Friday, September 6, from 11AM – 2PM at the Liberal Arts and Arts & Humanities (LAAH) Building room 453.  Attendees will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with our office space and learn about the engaging work of RESI and its affiliates. Additionally, there will be opening remarks by Dr. Mark Zoran, Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, Dr. Omar Rivera, Associate Dean for Faculty Initiatives, and Dr. Darrel Wanzer-Serrano, Director of RESI. RESI was founded in 1991 to serve as a major research unit for the study of race and ethnicity – an area which presents a host of critical issues confronting the state and the nation. As such, RESI is dedicated to fostering, celebrating, and producing innovative research on a range of topics including power, inequality, and higher education. Examples of current and ongoing research taking place include exploring the factors of substance use behaviors amongst undergraduate Hispanic students, interrogating race, and identity in Shakespearean performance, investigating environmental justice efforts in the U.S.-Mexico borderlands and more.

“This past year has been RESI’s most productive. We have helped advance over a dozen research projects across faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students.” said Dr. Darrel Wanzer-Serrano. “This event is not only an opportunity for the Texas A&M community to familiarize themselves with our institute but also to highlight the transformative research our affiliates are actively conducting.”

This event is free and open to the Texas A&M community. Refreshments and food will be provided.
