RESI-Cantu Graduate Fellowship in Latinx Studies

The Race & Ethnic Studies Institute (RESI) and the Carlos H. Cantu Hispanic Education and Opportunity Endowment Fund are partnering to offer a fellowship opportunity for current Texas A&M University doctoral students.

The RESI-Cantu Graduate Fellowship is a year-long fellowship awarded annually to one Ph.D. level student at Texas A&M University whose research contributes to the field of Latinx studies and/or analyses of race, ethnicity, sexuality, and gender. Each Fellow is awarded $10,000 that can be used for:

• Technology and Equipment*
• Archival Trips
• Conference Fees
• Purchasing of Books and other Print Materials
• University Tuition and Fees
• Other related research expenses

As part of the Fellowship, students are expected to collaborate with Dr. Felipe Hinojosa and Dr. Troy Harden in work related to the Cantu Endowment and RESI including but not limited to helping coordinate the Latinx Lecture Series.

Eligibility Requirements:

Application to the RESI-Cantu Graduate Fellowship is available to any Texas A&M University Ph.D. level student at any year of their program. The research interests of potential fellows must converge with the mission of the Cantu Endowment and contribute to the field or Latinx studies and/or analyses of race, ethnicity, sexuality, and gender. Selected Fellows must live in College Station during the year of their fellowship. Students are welcome to apply to, and may receive, the RESI- Cantu Graduate Fellowship more than once.

Responsibilities:

RESI-Cantu Graduate Fellows work in collaboration with Dr. Felipe Hinojosa on projects related to the Cantu Endowment. In particular, Fellows are expected to oversee the logistics of the Latinx Lecture Series. These responsibilities amount to an average of five (5) hours of work per week and may include contacting speakers, finalizing travel schedules, enjoying meals together with Cantu speakers and staff, and the like. This work gives Fellows the opportunity to work one- on-one with some of the leading scholars in Latinx studies, building connections that can extend far beyond their Fellowship year.

Finances:

RESI-Cantu Graduate Fellows are awarded $10,000 to be disbursed between November 1st, 2022 and August 15th, 2023 of their Fellowship year. All funds must be used for research related expenses and are disbursed through the TAMU Race & Ethnic Studies Institute/Sociology department business office. All travel expenses must be submitted through CONCUR for pre-approval.
