Biography

My research interest stems from a passion to understand how conflicts and wars have affected vulnerable populations, as well as the fundamental role of the media in conflict situations. I would like to understand systemic factors that inform global media outlets’ decisions to report on conflicts and how these choices affect the level of exposure that conflicts receive on the global front. Additionally, I am curious about how people with lived experience of conflicts interpret the conflicts that occur in their countries and the media representations, and how new media and communicative practices are harnessed during conflict situations. One of the aims of my research is to contribute to our understanding of the meanings that journalistic representations give to conflicts. I strongly believe in utilizing theoretical insights to address real-life challenges and consider my research a critical step towards addressing conflicts because narratives from the perspective of those most affected can offer important insights into conflict dynamics. I hope that the outcomes from my research can inform management and restorative practices.
