Biography

Mireya Smith (she/her) is a third-year doctoral student in the Counseling Psychology Ph.D. program at Texas A&M University. She earned her B.A. in Psychology from Azusa Pacific University and a dual M.A. in Social Psychology and Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Ball State University. Mireya’s research focuses on belonging and interpersonal connectedness, racial stress and trauma, and strategies to reduce clinician, theoretical, and systemic bias. She is also committed to advancing cultural awareness and multicultural competence to promote culturally responsive care. Mireya aspires to serve as a training director in a university counseling center, where she hopes to support practicum trainees in developing the skills needed to provide culturally competent clinical services.
