Description

The Sociology Department at Texas A&M University invites applications for a full-time, 9 month position of a tenured professor and department head.  The position has a starting date of July 1, 2021, or as otherwise negotiated. The Department Head reports to the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts. The successful applicant will be responsible for overseeing the progress and daily operation of the department, and will be expected to maintain a scholarly agenda, as well as engage in teaching at a reduced load.

Texas A&M University offers a wide range of research opportunities including the Texas Research Data Center (TXRDC), the Race and Ethnic Studies Institute, and the Glasscock Center for Humanities Research. The Sociology Department (https://liberalarts.tamu.edu/sociology/) is large, collegial, and intellectually and demographically diverse with 31 faculty members. The department’s undergraduate program has about 600 majors and the doctoral program has about 65 students.  Texas A&M University is a large and expanding research university in Bryan/College Station, a growing metropolitan community with a clean environment, attractive amenities, and a low cost of living. It has close proximity to the large metropolitan areas of Austin, Houston, and San Antonio. The University is a land, sea, and space grant university.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a doctoral degree in Sociology, a nationally or internationally recognized record of scholarship, excellence in teaching, and administrative experience. The department specializations are: culture; crime, law and deviance; demography; organizational, political and economic sociology; race, class and gender; and social psychology.  Areas of specialty are open but preference will be given to candidates whose teaching and research interests match those of the department.
