What are you doing now?

“I currently serve as the Operations Manager of Texas Folklife, a statewide folk and traditional arts & culture nonprofit. My INTS degree facilitated a global cultural understanding that informs my work on a regular basis. Since we present and preserve the living traditions of many cultures that exist in Texas, I regularly utilize my cultural studies skills to translate knowledge for our communities. I am grateful the Department of International Studies encouraged a study abroad in Chile which led me to pursue a master’s degree in Latin American Studies. I continued to conduct field research on cultural policy in Chile through my graduate studies and I have my roots in INTS to thank for my career so far.”

What advice would you give current and future students?

“Lean on your resources available through the Department and find a mentor in the faculty to invest in you. Also, take advantage of the supplementary educational experiences, like incredible guest lectures. I learned so much by attending the adjacent seminars and spending time to hear from professors outside the classroom.”
