Biography

Oziomachukwu (Ozzie) Ejechi is a PhD student in English at Texas A&M University, specializing in postcolonial African literature, ecomedia studies, and representations of environmental justice in African and global contexts. Her research focuses on the ecologies of moving images and print texts, examining how African cultural producers and activists address the environmental impacts of resource extraction, particularly in regions like Nigeria’s Niger Delta and the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s cobalt mining zones. Through this work, Ozzie explores how these narratives resist imperialist perspectives, reframing African environments within broader discourses on anthropocentrism, global responsibility, and ecological advocacy.

In addition to her focus on ecomedia, Ozzie engages deeply with 18th-century Black Atlantic literature, especially as it reveals themes of identity, resilience, and resistance in the African diaspora. She also explores contemporary African literary representations of migration and displacement, with a particular emphasis on Black and African women’s writing. Her work on these themes highlights the intersections of spatiality, belonging, and the socio-political dimensions of postcolonial African experiences.

Ozzie is committed to amplifying African-centered perspectives within academic and public discourse, aiming to foreground narratives that capture the lived realities of African communities. Through her dual pursuits in scholarship and creative writing, she hopes to contribute to critical conversations on environmental justice, postcolonial identity, and the resilience of marginalized voices. Her work ultimately seeks to expand the understanding of African literature’s role in addressing pressing global issues through culturally rooted, impactful storytelling.
