Biography
Mariot Valcin Jr. is a 2nd year PhD student at Texas A&M University where his field of study is African American literature and Caribbean Literature from the 20th and 21st centuries. His focus is on Afro and Afro-Caribbean spirituality as a means of liberation. Mariot specializes his research through Afrofuturism and Film Studies. Prior to Texas A&M, Mariot received his bachelors in English Education from the University of Oklahoma and a masters in English from East Carolina University. Mariot is a 18th year veteran educator where he has taught in K-12 schools, community college, and a Historically Black College & University. Mariot is also an artist specializing in playwriting and filmmaking with over 10 years of experience in those fields as a writer and director.
