The 2016 Federal Statistical Research Data Center (FSRDC) Research Conference was held on November 15th at Texas A&M University’s College Station campus. The all-day event featured three concurrent sessions during each of four session periods, plus a welcome session and a keynote noon-time presentation. In all there were thirty presentations by sixty authors and co-authors from a variety of disciplines including business, economics, demography, health, management, planning, and sociology. The event was hosted by the Texas Research Data Center (TXRDC), which is supported by a multi-university consortium involving Texas A&M University, the Texas A&M University System, Baylor University, Rice University, The University of Texas at Austin and The University of Texas at San Antonio.

The 2016 FSRDC Annual Research Conference brought together federal data administrators and a wide array of scientific researchers conducting research at FSRDCs. Numerous FSRDC researchers currently affiliated with TXRDC Consortium Institutes were involved in research presentations, including Sam Bondurant, Jenifer Bratter, Mary E. CampbellCraig Carpenter, Justin Denney, Mark Fossett, Jennifer Horney, Wei LiKen-Hou LinTim Lomax, F. Carson Mencken, Harland Prechel, Tiffany Radcliff, Nathanael Rosenheim, Charles Tolbert, Kate Willyard, Hongwei Zhao, and Haotian Zhong.

The conference featured special remarks by Texas A&M’s Vice President for Research, Dr. Glen Laine, Texas A&M’s College of Liberal Arts Dean, Dr. Pamela Matthews, the Chief of the Center for Economic Studies, Dr. Lucia Foster, and the TXRDC Executive Director, Mark Fossett.

A keynote presentation was made internationally renowned historical demographer, Dr. Steven Ruggles. Dr. Ruggles presentation, discussed changes in Census data collection efforts from 1790 to current day. He also discussed big Census microdata, FSRDCs, and linkage of federal records.
