Graduate Student Annual Evaluation

Graduate students are evaluated and ranked every year with respect to awarding departmental assistantships according to the following four criteria:

  1. Progress in the program
  2. Assistantship evaluation
  3. Professional activity (research and teaching)
  4. Grade point ratio

These annual evaluations:

  • Measure progress and guides conversations between graduate students and their mentors
  • Collect information about performance in the program
  • Provide information to the Sociology Department to distribute assistantships
  • Guide committees to nominate students for fellowships
  • Supply students with letters of guaranteed funding an overview of their progress
