Job Listing (Full-time): Geospatial Specialist/Librarian at the University of Arizona (Applications due 01/15/24)

The University of Arizona (UA) Libraries is seeking a Geospatial Specialist to develop an interdisciplinary service program supporting the geographic information systems (GIS) and geospatial data needs of the UA research and instruction communities. Emphasized in the position are impactful instruction/training, extensive research support, and active engagement in campus outreach and collaboration. Applications are due by January 15, 2024 with an anticipated hire date of April 15, 2024.

The first review of applications will occur on January 15, 2024. The position will remain open until filled.

Salary range: $63,000 – $76,000

Anticipated start date: April 14, 2024

Responsibilities will include:

  • Support UArizona researchers and scholars in navigating the geospatial landscape.
  • Develop and lead training opportunities in using and accessing geospatial tools and resources, including analysis and visualization software.
  • Respond to geospatial data and map-related research questions.
  • Provide 1:1 and/or small-group consultations on geospatial applications and data sources to a range of users with a range of expertise.
  • Assist in developing map visualizations for campus instructors and researchers.
  • Collaborate with UArizona Libraries colleagues on geospatial data server projects to develop data and metadata curation workflows.
  • Engage with the broader academic library community involved with geospatial data platforms through the GeoBlacklight community.
  • Create effective outreach strategies for geospatial services.
  • Contribute to web resources to aid in discovery of geospatial resources.
  • Create and update instructional materials, learning modules, and tutorials using a variety of formats including print, digital, and web-based technologies.

Especially desirable qualifications include:

  • Experience with one or more open source software options in addition to ESRI products
  • Experience with, or interest in developing, scholarship using GIS resources
  • Interest in open source and open access initiatives
  • Interest in academic libraries
