Grant Overview

PURPOSE
Support to bring distinguished scholars, artists, and performers to Texas A&M for a period of five days, wherein the fellow will engage with faculty and students and deliver a public presentation

AMOUNT
Visiting fellows will receive a $5,000 stipend and coverage of travel and lodging expenses

OPEN TO
Full-time faculty (non-visiting). Faculty may not have hosted more than one fellow in a three-year period

The Glasscock Center Short-Term Visiting Fellowships bring distinguished scholars, artists, and performers to Texas A&M University. Both individuals and groups of the Texas A&M faculty may nominate Visiting Fellows who will contribute to the Glasscock Center’s mission to foster and celebrate the humanities and humanities research at Texas A&M.  Fellows’ visits typically last five days, during which they are expected to give a public presentation of their work as well as engage with faculty and students via such activities as workshops and classroom visits.

Visiting fellows receive a $5,000 stipend in addition to travel and lodging expenses. Per diem for the guest is not included, although the Center makes available a modest allowance for on-campus meals to facilitate engagement with faculty and students.

The Glasscock Center serves as the fellow’s host unit, providing an office and organizing travel and lodging.  The Texas A&M faculty applicant is responsible for liaising with the fellow and organizing the visiting fellow’s activities (with logistical support from the Center).

The fellowships may be combined with other activities on campus or regionally; however, the activities during the fellowship must be additional. For example, if a scholar is already traveling from overseas to participate in a conference in Houston, the Texas A&M faculty applicant may invite the scholar to our campus for a week as a visiting fellow.

ELIGIBILITY:

The Glasscock Center invites applications up to three semesters in advance of the proposed visit.  Requests to host visiting fellows during the semester in which the application is made will not be considered.

Applicants must be full-time Texas A&M faculty members in a non-visiting position and may not host more than one fellow in a three-year period.

Applicants should verify that their events do not conflict with the dates of major Glasscock Center events by checking with the Center’s web calendar prior to the submission of an application. (The Center will not fund events that conflict with our Book Prize Lecture, Fallon-Marshall series, or other major symposia, conferences, or lectures.) Events should be held on the Texas A&M University campus and/or in our surrounding communities of Bryan/College Station.

As with all of our programs, potential applicants are encouraged to discuss their proposals in advance with the Glasscock Center by contacting us at glasscock@tamu.edu.

Short-Term Visiting Fellowship Nomination

Fellows at a variety of career stages will be considered; however, they must be nationally recognized leaders or emerging leaders in their respective fields. Applications that can demonstrate how the visiting fellow would benefit both faculty and student research will be prioritized.
