Research Interests
Ashley Vance is a PhD candidate in United States history. Her dissertation focuses on the US Army’s presence in Germany in the decades following World War II. Specifically, she examines how the military created a unique Cold War army in West Germany that was combat ready while carrying out a peacetime deployment. She also addresses the soldiers’ lived experience and how their perceptions and behavior influenced Army policy at the time.
