Welcome Dr. Rivera

The Department of Philosophy at Texas A&M University is delighted to announce that Dr. Omar Rivera has joined our faculty as Associate Professor with tenure (effective September 1, 2020). Dr. Rivera was raised in Lima, Peru, earned his PhD from Penn State and was trained in philosophy in the United States and Germany. His specialization is Latin American and Latinx Political Philosophy and Aesthetics. Dr. Rivera has completed two books, Delimitations of Latin American Philosophy: Beyond Redemption (Indiana University Press, 2019) and Cosmological Aesthetics in Andean Philosophy: Racial Embodiment and Decolonial Resistance ( Bloomsbury Academic Press, forthcoming in 2021 and is currently writing two additional book manuscripts. Dr. Rivera is recipient of an ACLS Burkhardt Fellowship and was a research faculty at LLILAS-Benson at the University of Texas in Austin, and has been a DAAD research scholar at the University of Freiburg, Germany. Prior to his appointment at Texas A&M, Dr. Rivera was Associate Professor at Southwestern University, where he served as Chair of the Philosophy Department, the Latin American and Border Studies Program and the Race and Ethnicity Studies Minor.
