Changing Your Major to PHIL or SEAL

Students who wish to change their major to Philosophy must meet the following requirements:

    • Texas A&M GPA of at least a 2.0
    • Completion of PHIL 240 and at least 1 additional Philosophy course
    • At least a 2.0 GPA in Philosophy coursework
    • Less than 90 hours of completed coursework

Students wishing to pursue a second major/degree in Philosophy must meet the following requirements:

    •  Overall GPA: 3.0
    • Completion of 9 hours of major coursework (including 240), with at least a 3.0 GPR in those courses.
    • Less than 90 hours of completed coursework
    • Meeting with PHIL advisor
    • Major advisor approval

Students who wish to change their major to University Studies in Society, Ethics and Law (USLA-SEL) must meet the following requirements:

    • Texas A&M GPA of at least a 2.75
    • Completion of PHIL 240 and at least 1 additional Philosophy course
    • At least a 2.0 GPA in Philosophy coursework
    • Less than 90 hours of completed coursework

Students are also required to meet with the academic advisor prior to being accepted into the major. This meeting can be completed prior to applying or once you have already applied to change your major to Philosophy or USLA-SEL. This can be scheduled through Navigate, or you can email the academic advisor, Ziena Miller, for virtual drop-in availability.
