jacksonName: Meredith Jackson

Hometown: College Station, Texas

High School: A&M Consolidated High School

Degree objective: Bachelor of Science in Economics and Master of Science in Finance

University highlights, awards, scholarships: I was on the Dean’s list every semester, graduated from A&M Summa Cum Laude, and was a Teaching Assistant for ECON 445: Financial Economics.

Clubs/Organizations I am (was) a part of: During my time at Texas A&M I was a part of Women in Economics, Texas A&M Economics Society, and Aggies for Animal Rescue. I was also involved with Women in Economics, where I held the position of Philanthropy Co-Chair for a year and was on the Business Committee.

Current employment: In my previous employment I was a Head Lifeguard for two years. I was also a Teaching Assistant for the Financial Economics course at Texas A&M. I am currently employed as a Private Swim Instructor and Spa Associate at Hand & Stone.

Family ties to Texas A&M: My mom graduated from Texas A&M as a double BBA major in 1983. I also grew up in College Station, so I was born an Aggie!

I chose to attend Texas A&M because…  I was raised as an Aggie growing up in College Station. Additionally, Texas A&M is an amazing school and has a great Economics program.

My favorite things to do on campus are…  Walking through main campus and seeing all the traditions across campus: the Century Tree, putting a penny on Sully, etc

When I have free time, I like… To spend time with my friends and family, travel, and be outdoors.

The craziest thing I’ve done is…  I went snow skiing in Colorado and on our first day we were caught in a blizzard on top of the mountain. I had to ski all the way down in the snow storm and had altitude sickness too!

My favorite place to study is… At my own desk in my apartment. Everything I need: printer, school supplies, snacks, etc. is nearby!

My favorite ECON professor is…  Professor Edwardson. I took Money & Banking (ECON 311) and Microeconomics (ECON 202) with him, and I wish he taught more!

My favorite part of being an Economics student is…  The strong community of Economics students at Texas A&M and the variety of classes I got to take.

If I could share an afternoon with anyone, I would love to share it with…  I would love to spend an afternoon with Ellen DeGeneres. She’s a great role model and is hilarious too

If I knew I could not fail, I would…  Start my own company either in cosmetics, helping rescue dogs, or both!

If money was not a consideration, I would love to…  Travel all across Europe. I’ve only been to Greece, but I’d love to see the rest of Europe too.

What is your passion and how are you committed to pursuing it?  My passion is to work hard and help others through knowledge, assistance, and leadership. I strive to apply this in all parts of my life

After graduation, I plan to…  Pursue a Master’s degree at Southern Methodist University in Finance.

The one Texas A&M experience I will always remember is…  Getting my Aggie ring. I had my mom, who is a Former Student, present the ring to me at my ring ceremony, and it was a really special experience. I wear my ring almost every day!
