Double Degree & Double Major Information

Double Degree/Double Major in Psychology

Interested students must meet with a PBSI advisor first.

Requirements to declare:

  • Double major/Double degree requires 9 hours of PSYC/PBSI coursework completed prior to application
  • less than 90 completed hours (including transfer credit, IB, AP, dual credit, and CLEP)
  • 3 hours PSYC/PBSI 107 (can be transferred from a junior college or accepted via AP/IB credit
  • 3 hours PSYC/PBSI 245 (can be transferred from a junior college)
  • 3 hours of any other PSYC/PBSI coursework (must be graded from TAMU)
  • 3.0 PSYC/PBSI GPA
  • 3.0 overall TAMU GPA
  • Double major: 9 hours of PSYC/PBSI coursework MUST APPLY toward your current major degree.
    • No more than 30 hours of PSYC/PBSI coursework can fall in the Work Not Applied area.
  • Double degree: Per Student Rule 14.4.5 – Courses may be used to satisfy the requirements for both
    degrees. However, the total semester hours required must be at least 30 semester hours in addition
    to the greater number of hours required for either degree. At least 12 hours of 300- and 400-level
    course work must be completed in each field of study.

Double major/double degree candidates will follow their existing catalog for the Psychology major.

*NRSC-BCN, NRSC-MCB, NRSC-TPC majors – MAY NOT add a double major in PSYC.
*NRSC-BCN majorsMAY NOT add a double degree in PSYC
*NRSC-MCB, NRSC-TPC majors – MAY add a double degree in PSYC if there are an additional 30 hrs over their
current major hour limit

Double Degree in NRSC-BCN

(Double majors with NRSC-BCN are NOT allowed for any major)

  • less than 75 completed hours (including transfer credit, IB, AP, dual credit, and CLEP)
  • 3 hours PSYC/PBSI 107 (can be transferred from a junior college or accepted via AP/IB credit)
  • 6 hours PSYC/PBSI neuroscience related coursework completed (excluding PSYC/PBSI
    483/484/485/491). (Must be graded from TAMU)
  • 4 hours BIOL 111 (TCCNS BIOL 1406) (can be transferred from a junior college or accepted via AP/IB
    credit)
  • 4 hours CHEM 119 (TCCNS Chem 1411) (can be transferred from a junior college or accepted via AP/IB
    credit)
  • B or better is required for ALL prerequisite courses
  • 3.0 overall TAMU GPA
