Dr. Tarvin teaches courses in intercultural communication, rhetoric, humor, and public speaking. He
received his Ph.D. in Communication from Louisiana State University in 2013, and joined the
Department at Texas A&M University in 2014. His academic interests focus on high-impact practices
that enhance the undergraduate experience. He leads international field trips and faculty-led
education abroad trips. In addition to being an Instructional Associate Professor in the
Department, Dr. Tarvin is also a corporate speaker. He presents keynote speeches – both
domestically and abroad – on the importance of humor as an artistic proof of persuasion.
Dr. Tarvin was an Aggie Fish Camp Namesake (2019), an Aggie T-Camp Namesake (2020), and received
the Aggies Celebrate Teaching Award (2020). He is the Faculty Sponsor for Twelve, a student
organization devoted to serving the Bryan/College Station area. He has been a member of the Faculty
Senate since 2019, and serves on the Legislative Affairs Committee and the Honors Council. His
motto is making education “easy, breezy, and beautiful,” and he often uses phrases like “Girl, get
it!” and “Pura Vida” (Costa Rican phrase meaning, “good life”) to hype and collaborate ideas with
others.
