Bio

 

Dr. Dave Tarvin is an instructional associate professor and the director of the undergraduate departmental honors program. He earned his Ph.D. in Communication from Louisiana State University in 2013. After spending time teaching abroad in Costa Rica, Dr. Tarvin joined the Department of Communication & Journalism at Texas A&M University in 2014. He teaches courses in public speaking, intercultural communication, and rhetorical theory. Dr. Tarvin serves as the department coordinator for education abroad and he strongly advocates for students to study abroad. To that effort, he leads fieldtrips to Costa Rica and has taught faculty-led study abroad programs in Italy several times. He strongly believes studying abroad is a high-impact, transformative experience that greatly influences how individuals understand themselves and the world. Dr. Tarvin won the Director’s Award for Outstanding Service to Honors Programs in 2023, Aggies Celebrate Teaching Award in 2020, was named a namesake for Transfer Camp in 2020, and a namesake for Fish Camp in 2019. Dr. Tarvin is a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honors Society.
