Tom Burton is a lecturer in the Journalism Studies Program. He was the 2018-19 Knight Fellow at Ohio University’s School of Visual Communication and has B.S. in journalism from the University of Florida. He is the former director of photography and video at the Orlando Sentinel. He directed award-winning coverage of the end of the space shuttle program and coordinated courtroom pool photography from the murder trials of Casey Anthony and George Zimmerman. He also edited coverage at multiple sporting events including Super Bowls, BCS Football Championships, NCAA Final Fours and NBA Finals. As a photojournalist, he is veteran of a wide range of assignments including political campaigns, natural disasters, special projects and conflict zones. He is a multimedia journalist and was among the first newspaper photographers to introduce video into daily coverage.
