Porcacchi’s Jamaica 1572 Map
Lacking the accuracy of a science yet to come, this map was drawn from the heart. An early map of the Jamaica issued by Tomaso Porcacchi Castilione (1530-85), and engraved by Girolamo Porro. The map is from Porcacchi’s Island Book- L’Isole piu Famose del Mondo, incorporating later discoveries and including maps of the world and the continents (as well as islands)- first published in Venice in 1572. Showing also part of Cuba. Nicely DETAILED for a small map, AND beautifully engraved with compass rose, sea monster and title cartouche. Map area: 4¼ x 6″. Sheet size: 11 x 7½”.
